Movie Review: Prince of Persia

An Exciting and Ridiculously Fun Romp through the Sands of Time

Much like Aladdin, Dastan, played by a bronze and buff Jake Gyllenhall, is plucked from the streets at a young age and adopted by the King of Persia. He grows up alongside two brothers, the King's real sons. After a victorious attack on a holy city, claiming to have "Weapons of Mass Destruction" in the form of a golden dagger that allows the wielder to travel back in time, Dastan is framed for his father's murder and flees with a virgin priestess into the desert.

Did his own brother frame him, or does the sinister plot go deeper and farther back in time? I loved the plot twists in this movie. Although a lot of the action and acting is quite ridiculous (I think on purpose), the plot itself surprised me and left me guessing the whole time. The film is gorgeous, with beautiful costumes, and breathtaking scenes of desert dunes, oasis's, and glorious cities.

My favorite character is again played by Gemma Arterton. (Who impressed me in Clash of the Titans)

Her witty banter and heroic feats were fantastic. And it was fun to see Dastan swoon. She has a neat ability to appear older and wiser than her age, and always plays a noble hearted woman willing to put principle above all else.

Too bad no Persians were in this. They could have used at least one.

I recommend this movie to anyone who wants a fun adventure.

My son wants to see this movie.

I can't believe how buff Jake got for this movie. Who knew he had it in him? Imagine what some trainer could do for me.

It looks like a cool movie. I know I always wanted to play the video game as soon as it came out.

Thanks for the rec - sounds good! We're definitely due for a movie weekend :)

I *love* the games, and it's only the busy-ness of life that's kept me away from seeing this yet! I believe we have plans to see it tonight, though.

Glad it's fun! That's all you can really expect from something like this, haha. :) It is too bad they didn't cast any Persians for the film, though -- that was a poor decision by the producers.

Ah yes, I heard the movie was "white-washed" like The Last Airbender is.
But it sounds like a fun romp!

My kids love this video game, and it looks good. Are there any iffy scenes in it? I know it's put out by Disney, but when they did a scene in Pirates where people are looking up Liz Swan's dress, I wasn't too impressed and neither were my kids.

I'm catching up on blogs I follow and just saw, "be wery, wery quiet." HA! Good luck with your queries. There could be lots of no's and several maybe's but it only takes one yes!

Still trying to persuade my sons they want to see it. Otherwise I guess we'll rent it, but it sounds like one seen best on the big screen.

I just saw this movie and really enjoyed it, too. What's not to enjoy about a bronze and buff Jake Gyllenhall? But I took three kids with me, and they all gave it a thumbs up, too.

I liked this one! But as you know, I had to ignore some of the plot holes or character flaws in the brothers that bugged me.

Yet it's definitely one I would watch again. Thanks for sharing!

at least they can argue "no Persians were harmed in the making of this movie".
