My Writing Process – Blog Tour
1) What am I working on?
Well, if you follow my blog, then you know I just finished an NA sci fi novel and submitted it to Embrace, Entangled Publishing's New Adult line. I've started my manuscript for the companion novel to Duets with Michelangelo, which is already contracted by HarperImpulse and due March 17th. So, I'm writing a contemporary romance right now.
2) How does my work differ from others of its genre?
My contemporary romances are about the one subject I know more about than most people: Classical Music and Orchestras. I thought if I was going to write about the real world, than I'd better know my stuff. So I'm sticking to that and writing about what I know. If you're interested in reading about life in an orchestra (which can be very interesting I kid you not!) than you can pick up my first contemporary romance, Playing the Maestro.
3) Why do I write what I do?
I write about orchestras because I've been playing in orchestras my whole life. In high school, I played in the Boston Youth Symphonies, and in college I played in the UNH Symphony. Recently, I won the principal flute seat in the NH Philharmonic, a chair I'd been eyeing for the past ten years of my life. So yeah, orchestra is a big part of my life and I enjoy making up stores about the different instrumentalists!
4) How does your writing process work?
Usually I start with an idea and let it simmer for awhile before writing anything down. Either the idea grows or goes away. If it's strong enough, than it grows into a storyline with characters, and I start to write with some inkling of the beginning, middle, and the end. But, I don't have everything planned. I let the story unfold organically, and see where it leads. Sometimes it's not the exact place where I thought, but the new path is so much better because it flowed from the beginning naturally. I only know for certain once I've written it down!

I can definitely see why you write about the orchestra when you write contemporary fiction. And I love reading more about the orchestra too, especially since my experience with it is more from a singer's point of view as opposed to a musicians.
Fun to read your answers. It does help to write what we know. Does that include chasing kids around trying to wipe boogers from their noses?!
Fun answers! I think the music angle is very cool.
