From a Cat's Perspective: Guest Post by Christine Rains, author of the 13th Floor series

By Christine Rains

ELLI

I can hear Harriet in the hallway with the dead man. Why she does she want to mate with him? He'll likely eat her. Stupid woman never listens when I warn her away from him.

When they come into my home, I tell her again. Harriet only shoos me away, and Kerr is no help. What can I expect from a tom who had his maleness snipped away anyway? I have to do everything around here.

The dead man talks to me like I care. I see the hunger in his eyes. If he dares harm Harriet, I will rip open his belly and pin him down in a sunspot. Kerr's spot, not mine. The dead man needs to leave. At least he listens when I tell him so and heads out the door.

Speaking of hunger, there's nothing left in my bowl. I know Harriet's bones are creaky at night, but a few treats would be nice. Surely Kerr can add his voice to this request. Goodness knows he begs enough for food when she's in the kitchen.

Suddenly Harriet goes rigid and shudders. Her eyes turn back as a vision claims her. Drat. No treats until morning now.

Running into the bedroom before the screaming starts, I sigh and hop onto the bed. The pillows don't muffle the wails, and my irritated mood increases. I spot the ghost girl hurrying to see what Harriet is going on about. Maybe if I swat at her for a while, I'll feel better.
