Gearing Up for the Star Trek Convention!

I am so excited (and a little bit nervous) about the Star Trek convention this weekend! I'm going on Saturday. This will be my first Star Trek convention ever! I've been to flute conventions and writing conventions in the past- and I must say sometimes they were overwhelming. I have tickets for several photo ops with members of The Next Generation crew and tickets to the Reunion Performance:

From Creation Entertainment's Website:

It all happens Saturday Night in this BOSTON area exclusive attraction: the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation (Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis and Denise Crosby) take the stage together for an evening of live entertainment you just won't want to miss! This 90 minute evening show is not part of any ticket package and must be purchased separately. Here are the prices for this one time only area special event!

What I'm excited about:

-Actually taking pictures with the actors that I've watched on television since before I can even remember. As a kid I used to watch The Next Generation every night. There would be back to back episodes starting at 7pm. I think it was like a rerun of last week and then the new one for that week. My favorite character was Data because I identified with his awkward social skills and had some of the same problems with understanding humor. If you told little Aubrie all those years ago that she would actually be meeting Data (or the actor that played Data) and taking a picture with him when she grew up I know I would have been sooooo excited.

-Seeing the actors perform in person live. How cool is that?

-Seeing who else is there (and their costumes!) and sharing my love for Star Trek with all the other fans.

What I'm nervous about:

-Meeting the actors when I take my picture with them. I so don't want it to be awkward. What if one of them says something mean and totally turns me off to Star Trek forever! That would be horrible!

-Driving through Boston and getting a parking spot in Boston. Since I'm going with my sister, my brother, and his girlfriend, at least none of us will be alone.

-The long lines. I hate lines, and I can't imagine how long the lines will be for this event. At least I have company to talk to as I stand there waiting! Is it worth it? Heck, ya!

So, I'll post about what happened after Saturday and let you all know (with pictures) how it went! Wish me luck!

I would go to this in a heart beat if I lived anywhere within 8 hours! I'll have to keep my eyes out for a Star Trek convention in the Denver area. I've never been but I'd love to go too... even if Patrick Stewart isn't included. Brent Spiner and the guys who played Worf are great though! I grew up with the Next Generation too.

Re the photo shoots: the actors won't have time to say anything nasty - you'll queue, then step onto the spot. The camera will flash and then you're done. It's a very quick process, because it has to be to get everyone done.

In college, there were a few SF conventions in the area. I got to meet Nichelle Nichols who played Uhura from the original ST series.

I'd still love to be able to meet the cast of Stargate SG-1. One of these days I'm going to make it to DragonCon.

Have a blast at the convention. I've never been to a Star Trek convention either so it will be exciting to see what you share when you get a chance.
