Progress on Desert Nomad

desert nomad by ~salamandersoup on deviantART

I'm now up to 20,146 words. I'm taking my time with this novel, making every sentence shine. There are absolutely no was's had's or adverbs to be found! I plan to send this novel to agents. Yes, scary as it might sound, I'm going to try to break out of my ebook reign and feel the heat and sting of rejection. It was one of my New Year's resolutions. I'm not rushing it because I find that if I take my time thinking about the plot and the characters, the story develops with much more depth. If I write fast, all I write is crapola.

My question to you is: What would you expect from a sci fi book titled Desert Nomad? What comes to mind? Dune? Luke's home planet of Tatooine? Stargate?

So many stories combine the sci fi with the desert!!! What did you like about them? What drew you in?

Hi Aubrie, thanks for following my blog. I thought I'd come by and check yours out... it's awesome! I love the post below this one about how much you've changed as a writer. Such good stuff. Wow.

My friend, David J. West, wrote a short story with this rockin' worm creature in the desert. It freaked me out--so I always think of that.

Yay, I'm so excited for you that you're going to query agents!! It IS hard to get the rejections. I got MANY. My query letter slowly got better but wow, it's so dang competitive.

Thanks, M. Gray! I have sandworms in my book as well...now, if only I can make them interesting and scary!

Sand worms remind me of Beetlejuice. *laughs*

I could see Stargate and desert regions. I love Stargate for the Egyptian artifacts reason.

I'm really glad to hear that you plan to submit this story to agents. You've been just giving your novels away.

I'm glad you're making progress on your novel. I would expect some sort of desert climate, hot or cold with little life or for it to be a metaphor for something, like a character's journey. BTW, I'm here if you need a beta.

Cherie, you are too funny! I thought of Beetlejuice myself but didn't post it because I was afraid what other people would think!

Bethany, I'll take you up on that offer, I'm working my way thrugh Broken as we speak!

Hmm, I don't read much sci-fi so I don't know what I'd expect. My only dessert experiences were in AZ and far from nomadish.

Love that your going to query this one though. Time to take the plunge! :)

Oh! Throw me in the beta pool too!

Deserts in SciFi - tbh I didn't think of anything right off. But then again I'm braindead these days. Good luck working on it.
