Numbers From My Booksigning
So this weekend was such a great experience! I signed for three days at Castleberry Fairs!
Total books sold: 20
7 of Paradise 21
7 of Colonization
2 of Tundra 37
4 of Haven 6
Total emails collected for the mailing list: 22
Total fliers given out for kindle/nook people: 60
So, no way did I make my money back on the booth if you're looking at the raw numbers. But, I did make a lot of great connections, which I think is invaluable. For instance, the women with the booth next to me had a 13 year old son who loved my book. He bought it the first day and read it for three days straight. His mother said he's going to do a book report in school about it and tell his friends. I think that's the coolest thing ever because books gain popularity by word of mouth. Also, I got to sign a lot of Colonization books as Christmas presents for grandchildren and nieces. Can you imagine a teen opening a personalized, signed book from me at Christmas time with my email if they'd like to contact me and tell me about what they thought? Awesome.
Will I do it again? Definitely! I may choose another weekend, because the booth owners said this particular fair was slow this year. Maybe it was too late in the shopping season and everyone was already shopped out? Maybe they already had their presents? Next time I'll shoot for a Memorial Day weekend fair or the one after Thanksgiving when more people are off.
The other thing that I learned was that I need more genres to appeal to a wider audience. A lot of people said they loved to read, but not science fiction. So, I'm going to try to aim for a printed fantasy or contemporary romance book for the future. The more genres I have, the more interest I'll have in the craft fair attendees.
I hope these numbers and insights can help other authors make signing decisions in the future!
