Writing Update: Word Count, Signing Costs, and My New Banner

Look at my new banner! I read somewhere on the internet that you sell better at craft fairs if you have a nice presentation and show yourself and your products vertically (not just horizontally on a table), so I created this 8 foot banner at Vistaprint. Hopefully, it will draw people to my booth!

So I'm officially signing at the Castleberry Fairs Holiday Craft Spectacular December 7-9th! I got my vendor packet in the mail last week!

Let me  tell you, the costs of this craft fair signing are mounting. The banner was $31, the booth $250, supplies like receipts/bags/signs/easels to display the books/tablecloth $55, and 90 books for about $900. I'll be lucky if I break even. But that's not the point. I'm there to get exposure and hand out packets about my books so hopefully people go home and buy them on kindle. Or, the people that buy one go home and buy the others. Hopefully, the promo will ripple out in little waves in the future. Thousands of people attend, so it will be the biggest event so far for me and my books.

On the writing front, I wrote 19,656 words in September. I didn't reach my goal, but September was a crazy month with all my teaching jobs starting back up again, and three weddings played on flute. Hopefully life will settle down for October and I can finish my Loch Ness story.

The book tour is going well! I'm at Rachel Brimble's blog today talking about my goals for 2012, my favorite authors, and the best/worst parts about writing. Yesterday I was at Julliette Hill's blog talking about the pairing system on the New Dawn ships. I'd love to get the rank for the kindle version of Haven 6 up. Please buy your copy today! Only $4.99.

No news on the submission front. My YA sci book Frozen is still out there being read will hopefully find a home soon.

My Maestro (tentative release date Feb 25th) is being edited at Entangled Publishing right now. Reconnaissance (tentative release date May) is being edited at Inkspell publishing.

I'm looking forward to the release of Colonization on November 7th!  156 people have already marked it to read on Goodreads! Have you marked it down yet?

And that's it!

Interesting stats. Thanks for sharing the numbers. I was curious about this side of being an author. :)

Sweet banner! I hope you sell tons. And packets about your books are a good idea - did you make those yourself?
