Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

From IMDB:

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.
So who's going to see this movie?

I really really really want to take my dad- he's a civil war fanatic- but I'm not sure he'll like it. It does seem pretty accurate- besides the vampires, of course. They use real quotes from history, and he does have an axe.

Right now it has a 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes- which does not bode well. They say, "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has visual style to spare, but its overly serious tone doesn't jibe with its decidedly silly central premise, leaving filmgoers with an unfulfilling blend of clashing ingredients."

Well, I'm glad it's serious. History is serious. Lincoln is serious. Vampires can be serious. I wouldn't go if it was all just a joke. I think that's the coolest part- that they went out of their way to take this idea seriously. If I wanted a documentary, then I'd watch PBS.

So what are your thoughts, people?

I don't know about the movie but the book is fantastic! I really enjoyed it. It does take the story seriously, kind of like the Nolan movies take the Batman story seriously, but I prefer that to campiness so the book really worked for me. Your dad might like the book even if the movie gets bad reviews.

I think the movie looks great! I read the book and it was really dry. It needed to be more visual than sounding like a history lesson. That's why I have hopes the movie is better than the book, and I rarely say that!
