Try, Try Again!

My story about Voodoo in Jamaica was rejected by the ghost story anthology. When I saw this anthology, I thought of it because it does have witchcraft, just not the typical kind of black cauldron stuff. I thought that fact might doom it or make it stand out, so I sent it to this anthology and it was short listed! Which means they like it and they'll keep it until the deadline and see if it fits with the other stories they pick.

This is great example of how you should keep sending things out! You never know when you'll find the right place for your work!

Fingers crossed for you, Aubrie! That's a gorgeous cover. I think "violinist witch" would suggest they'd like more unusual witchery ...

Good luck! And it's true that you've always got to keep trying. It really is a subjective process.

I'm sure you will. Pity I gave up on so many things when I was young, great to hear you are made of sterner stuff.

Well that’s good news and good advice too. It is all about the fit. I hate the font on the new anthology. It’s too difficult to read.

Good luck! That's a great lesson. I've been slack in short story submissions lately.

Congratulations on being shortlisted, that's great news!
You're absolutely right, if something's not right for one anthology, send it somewhere else.
Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks, and good luck Aubrie. Once I've caught up with life, the universe and everything I really will have to start sending things out.
