Movie Review: 127 Hours

This movie is a true story! It's about Aron Ralston, an American climber whose arm got trapped under a boulder while hiking in Utah, and who, after waiting five days, decided the only chance he had for survival was to amputate his own arm.

James Franco (villain in Spider man) plays Ralston, and delivers an outstanding performance, going through all the emotions capable of a human being from enjoyment, elation, fear, depression, defeat, regret, hope...you name it. He's nominated for an Oscar, and the Motion Picture Academy got it right.

I was surprised how much I cared for Ralston from the beginning of the movie, despite his selfishness in not calling his mom back or telling anyone where he was going. He was a likable character, and when he fell down the crevice, I didn't know if I could stand to watch him suffer for the rest of the movie.

There's one scene where I had to cover my face and look away. (We can all guess which scene that was). It's gruesome, and they leave nothing to the imagination. But in this case, the gore is necessary. Someone actually had to go through that, and to get the full extent of what he went through, we need to see it firsthand.

The filming is intelligent and interesting. You see the bottom of the water bottle as he sips, which shows you just how precious each drop is, and the dwindling supply.

This is not a movie for kids, it's for adults that need a reminder of what life is really about and the importance of relationships.

Since I live in UT, I remember hearing all about that when it happened. I didn't know they had made it into a movie though ... I'm not sure if I could actually watch someone cut off his arm ...

I remember when this book first came out and how crizazy it was to imagine someone battling their self and finding the nervw to amputate their own arm. Awe inspiring. That's courage right there.

Hey Aubrie! I've been absent for nearly a month and I'm trying to catch up.

I probably won't ever see the movie. I remember the story from the news and it was hard to listen to then. I imagine it too deeply. However, I do admire his determination to live and the decisions he had to make in order to do so. Wow.

I hope you've been well!

I've heard many good things about this movie, but I know I can't see it because of what happens. I'm a wimp. Though your review is shaming me!
