I'm pulling a Robin Hood....
Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves is one of my all time favorite movies. (Although I'm not a big fan of Kevin Costner). My favorite scene is when Robin Hood and Maid Marion are by a lake/ocean (I'm not sure) and he asks her to deliver a letter for him. He says, "Do it for your King." and she says, "No." He then looks stunned, which Kevin Costner is good at doing. Then she says, "I'll do it for you...." And Bryan Adams starts singing, "Everything I do, I do for you."
I love that moment in all it's cheesy glory! It's inspired me for decades, and now it's inspiring my writing.
So, I've decided to write a similar moment in my YA sci fi, Colonization. Different enough not to copy the scene, but along the same sentiment.
What movie moments inspire you?

Well, this isn't from a movie but a t.v. show. I love the scene from the series finale of Battlestar Galactica when Kara Thrace says goodbye to her Cylon husband Anders. He's pretty much a vegetable, hooked up the the Galactica, and she leans over to kiss him. He doesn't show any emotion, but then he surprises her by whispering "See you on the other side." I got all teary-eyed when I saw that.
What excellent cheesiness!
I can't even think of a TV/Movie moment off the top of my head. They all jumble and inspire me in some way or another.
I love that movie! But I agree about Kevin Costner, I'm not a fan either. Neither is hubby.
As for what movie/TV moment... I'll have to think about that. I can rattle off a list of movies and shows, but specific moments?
"you are what you choose to be." "Superman!"
From Iron Giant.
that and the crane teqnique from Karate kid
I love cheesy moments that are romantic.
The Princess Bride and Stardust inspired me to write a book similar to them.
I love Prince of Thieves and the soundtrack.
I like when Jack drops the engagement ring into the subway window and the whole family stood there at the end of While you were sleeping.
Also, Aubrie you might want to stop by my blog. You won something.
You are so funny, Aubrie! I can see Kevin Costner's stunned expression right now. I like that Robin Hood scene, too. I also love watching Pride and Prejudice over and over. Keira Knightley and Matthew McFadyen are my favorites. Actually, Ms. Knightley is the inspiration for my Maggie character. Awesome to be corresponding again:)
A little cheese now and then is good. I can't think of a movie off the top of my head but I'm sure there is one.
That's one of my favorite moments in that movie, too. I love it - and Bryan Adams! :-)
That is a lovely moment in Robin Hood (sniff). I also love the 'While you were sleeping' scene that Beth montioned too! (Jack has a lovely sort of shy/cheeky apologetic sort of smile that's sooo sweet)
I was recently inspired by the atmosphere in a PC game called 'thief' and wrote a short story based on that, all dark and mysterious and a wee bit spooky -love it!
Oooo, that is cheesy! I never saw that movie - probably because I don't like seeing Kevin Costner on film.
What movie inspires me? I can't think of any that I've borrowed something that made its way into a scene. I did write a book that borrowed a little from the TV Charmed. I liked the idea of three sisters living together and fighting demons.
I love cheesy movie moments that get the ole heart pounding. I'm trying to think of one... Oh, my cutest kitty just started cleaning her face in slow-mo. Gotta watch that... can't think...
I agree about Costner, but I do love that movie. I especially love Alan Rickman in it.
I can think of two right away-in Gladiator, at the end, Russell Crow gives his final instructions, then reunites with his family.
The second is when Orlando Bloom gives his speech just before the giant battle and makes everyone a knight. Also, when he remarks (paraphrased) that the land is now his, what kind of man would he be if he did not try to make it better.
I've never seen that movie, but I'm very often inspired by movies and TV, so I understand exactly what you mean.
Is it silly to say that a lot of my inspiration come from Disney and Pixar movies? Even though it's animated, I'm inspired by the emotion in movies like The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, and even recent Pixar ones like Up.
Bring on the cheeziness! The world would be a sad place indeed if there wasn't any...
"As you wish."
I love every moment from Lord of the Rings. The scene where the camera sweeps over the rolling plains and comes to the woman standing alone on the tower, looking out over the land - so inspiring!
I haven't seen that movie. But I love a good helping of cheezy.
For me, it's The Princess Bride. So funny, yet inspiring at the same time. 'True love', makes us do crazy things. :)
My husband is inspired by 300, it gets him to the gym every morning.
I love the scene in Love Actually when Colin Firth tracks down the woman he loves in a restaurant in France and then proposes in Portugese! SIGH!
Different movies, different moments inspire me at different times, so hard to say.
Cool. That's one of my favorite movies (and moments) too. And "Everything I Do," is my husband's and my song! Talk about cheesy.
I've often remarked to my kids, 'You whine like a mule.'
This summer they sat down and actually watched the movie for the first time and went, 'So THAT'S why you say that, mom.'
I love the Robin Hood movie, and I don't mind Kevin Costner though he has done some pretty dull movies.
I don't really think about taking inspiration from movies or television, though I know I am influenced to a degree by things I've seen. I do love that particular moment in Robin Hood. It may be cheesy, but it is just the right kind of cheese to appeal.
There are many movies that inspire me, but those ones that give that extra twist at the end really get my attention.
Haha what an unusual source of inspiration. Films with clever dialogue seem to do it for me, Sleuth in particular stuck with me.
Hope the writing is going well and you're publishing many more wonderful stories
Warm Regards
Val
It's hard to pick just one. The first one that comes to my mind is the series finale of "Angel" when Wesley dies and he asks Illyria to lie to him, pretending she's the love of his life. It always gets to me. Then there's when the Doctor and Rose get separated on Doctor Who. Boy, all my favorite love moments are heartbreaking ones, but they evoke such emotion for me.
