Writing Update: The Good and The Bad

Paradise 21 got two more partial rejections over the last week. It's not looking good for this one in query land.

Here are the stats:

Queries: 55
Partials: 6 (4 rejected)
Rejections: 31

This makes me even more eager to finish my latest YA spin off, Colonization. With double the agents to query for YA, I think I have a better chance. Then, maybe I can use Paradise 21 as a prequel. If not, I'm sending it to one of my ebook companies. I will keep writing novels until my fingers don't work anymore, or until I get an agent. Let's just see how many it will take!

Thank you for all of your votes on my short story, Rainbow's End. It definitely helped cheer me up after those two big partial bombs!

Now for some good news:

My short story, Malicifer, has just come out at Gypsy Shadow Publishing.

This tale has everything from zombie sailors to sea monsters to epic battles.

As always, I'm looking for reviewers.
Please let me know if you'd like to review it in a comment below and I can provide you with a reviewer's copy. It's only a short story, so it won't take long :)

First...LOVE the pretty new bloggy look. Love. :)

Sorry about the rejections, but I love your positive attitude. You are right to just keep writing, working on your craft.

Happy Tuesday, Aubrie.

Lola

Love the new template! Sorry about the rejections - it always sucks.

BTW, really looking forward to reading 'Messenger'. Having a few issues loading it onto my eReader (my eReader's problem) but once it's on there, I can't wait!

Another place you may want to try might be Bell Bridge Books - http://www.bellbridgebooks.com/

They are an off-shoot of Belle Books which does Southern Women's Fiction. However, Bell Bridge is open to a bunch of different subgenres.

They are looking for Dark Fantasy with Romantic Elements. Similar to Anne Bishop's Black Jewels. They also want YA fantasy. Check out their what editors want page - http://www.bellbridgebooks.com/writers/whateditorswant.html

I stopped by their spotlight at RWA National Conference and liked a lot of what I heard. They are a small publisher and may do very small print runs (close to POD but they say they are listed in the B&N database so you can do signings there) and that a lot of their sales are via Amazon Kindle.

Sorry to hear about the rejections but I hope you'll keep sending it out.

Seems like your bad news and good news usually come at the same time, don't they? Love the new background.

Congrats on the release! And sorry about the rejections. You have a wonderful attitude, though. I'm sure you'll find an agent soon, probably before me!

You have such a wonderful attitude! Very positive and inspirational. I haven't reached the query stage yet, but I'm definitely keeping your words in mind.

I know nothing will stop you writing. you have a wonderfully optimistic spirit although I'll bet you don't think so at times. So congrats for the successes and I'm sure you'll find that elusive agent!

Love the look of your blog.

Oh, and I've tagged you on my blog, Aubrie. Come over for some light relief!

Okay, I'll try my hand at reviewing. It really won't be work since I like to read your work. Is it okay if I review it next week?

I got a rejection today. : (

Rejections definitely suck, but you've still got two more out there. Remember, it only takes one!

Empi said...

Stephanie said it - you've got a couple more out there. That's better than me. I'm working on revisions but nothing new is out there under consideration.

PS. I mistakenly deleted your comment on my blog :-(
If you have time could you enter it again so I can reply.

Sorry about the rejections, but there are still two partials out there! Good luck with those. :)

Congrats on the short story. Rejection always sucks, but good thing to keep writing. An agent once said that you keep querying until you've got something better to query, that's where I'm headed.

So sorry on the rejections... *pat on the back* ... such is the hard road to publication unfortunately, but the important part is not to stop trying!

As for the new short story release, sounds rather interesting! I'd love to read and review it on my site if you are still looking for reviews. ^_^

Good luck on your querying! And definitely let me know how things go with your submission with Krista. She is an awesome agent. I've been very happy with her :)

I love that you're maintaining a positive attitude and congrats on the short story. If you need me to review, I'd be honored, but it would be after next week-too much going on now. I still have the Ire review waiting to post on B & N! My brain has been on overload and I'm hoping this weekend and next weekend will catch me all up....

I was just reading about Malicifer over at Insatiable Readers and clicked on through. It sounds like a cool story.

Best of luck with everything.

Just keep writing, just keep writing...the best motto a writer can live by. :)
